A section of leaders in Bugisu sub-region have described President Museveni's presence at the recent Imbalu launch on 19 August, as politicisation of culture.
Just a week after the President attended the launch of the 2014 Imbalu festival, Budadiri West MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi has described the visit as culturally abominable.
"Culturally, anybody who has not taken circumcision traditionally is regarded as a boy here; he is not allowed to preside over a launch of this ceremony. And according to our culture, President Museveni is a boy, the Inzu Ya Masaba [Bamasaba cultural institution] therefore made a mistake to allow him come to preside over this ceremony," said Mr Mafabi.
Mr Amram Wadada, a cultural leader in Bumasifwa Sub-county in Sironko District, said the invitation of President Museveni at Mutoto cultural grounds is likely to see very many boys cowardice.
However, Mr Nagimisi Namawata, a leader at the cultural intitution, said Mr Museveni was invited as the President of Uganda where Bagisu belong and also to help the institution financially to build the cultural centre at Mutoto.
Bamasaba cultural institution spokesperson John Musira also said the invitation of President Museveni does not in any way affect the Imbalu festival. "President Museveni was invited like any other person, like a tourist, and his coming cannot affect Imbalu festival at all because he did not preside over, but Umukukha and other elders did," he said.
The Inzu Ya Masaba prime minister, Mr Henry Magomu, said like other visitors who come to witness the cultural launch from all over the world, President Museveni was also invited as a guest to see what takes place during the launch.
