{UAH} ABDUL RUGUMAYO

Abdul Rugumayo hails from Kyegegwa
in Kyenjojo disrrict. He joined the NRA around 1987/88 after his 'A'
level at Nyakasura School. He was a victim of the deceptive
recruitment method to attract people into the NRA whereby they were
told that they were to form the Airforce.

The group was grounded at Nakasongola airbase for quite long without
any training program. Around 1990 the then Airforce Intelligence
Richard Nana recommended to DMI a small number of these boys (Rugumayo
inclusive). At DMI then Private Rugumayo underwent basic training in
Military intelligence at Ssese Island. Upon completion, the group was
formed into a Combat Squad under Combat Intelligence department. When
the Military intelligence school shifted to Kaweweta in Nakaseke
District Abdul Rugumayo became one of the instructors.

Later he moved to CMI headquarters at Kitante to become an ADC to the
then CMI Noble Mayombo. Later he  rose to become the Gulu based 4th
Div intelligence officer. In the mid 90s while in Gulu during
Operation Iron Fist he was shot in the arm in an ambush along the
Karuma -Gulu road when he was in the company of Aronda Nyakairima.

During that ambush he saved Aronda's life by forcibly taking him
through the Counter Ambush drills. That was the first time Aronda was
coming face to face with a combat action and instead he was taking
cover inside the car before being forced out by Rugumayo.

After a short admission at Mulago Hospital, Rugumayo never went back
to field operations. On the other hand, following this ambush Museveni
withdrew Aronda from Operation Iron Fist and made him the Army
Commander. In appreciation for the darling rescue, Aronda promoted
Rugumayo to the rank of Major and appointed him the to head counter
intelligence at CMI before rising to become a Deputy CMI later.
He briefly served in anti-LRA operations in CAR and currently his star
has fell parly because he a Moslem and is not known to the Muhoozi
club. He is kind of grounded.
