Kayihura Denies Undermining Mbabazi's Ambitions

Uganda Police Force has denied reports that IGP, Gen Kale Kayihura recently insinuated that Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi will never rule Uganda.

Sections of the media on Monday reported that Kayihura made the remarks while lecturing thousands of students and youth from the tertiary institutions and secondary schools on the Topic "the historical mission of our generation-transforming Uganda."

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga told Chimpreports today, "It is not true that the IGP made such a remark during his two-hour lecture to the youth and students," adding, "The IGP while engaging the youth simply inspired them into growing up more aware and sensitive to the diversity of their community to help them create an impact in transforming their lives, of their communities and the country at large."

Enanga further stated that Kayihura "thus warned them (students) against being misled by political opportunists interested in distorting that path."

The law enforcement body's publicist did not identify the "political opportunists."

The media insinuated that the lecture carried messages aimed at the Hon. Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi whose camp they claim was recently prominent in the news for wooing youths to support him for the country's top job come 2016.

Mbabazi's youthful supporters were this year arrested on charges of bribery and conspiring against the NRM chairman using what police described as "fraudulent" methods.

Enanga said "the story is so imaginary and deliberately meant to mislead the perceptions of the public that the IGP directed his lecture to the succession politics of this country and specifically the Hon. Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi that is totally false.

"The Politics of this country is mature and pragmatic and the Police's only mandate is to ensure that all processes undertaken politically, socially and economically guarantee peace and security to propel the country."

He said the newspaper and political analysts should in the future be responsible for whatever information they release to the public.

"They are duty bound to remain professionally and provide the public with information in a honest, constructive and unbiased manner. The IGP and Police have and will continue working closely with the media in reporting stories generated for and against it. However, such freedom must be exercised responsibly and the facts and events reported accurately to help preserve the integrity of the IGP and the Policeinstitution."

Police demanded an apology from the newspaper.
