President breaks ground for multibillion prayer centre at Bukalango

as thousands of Charismatic Catholics celebrate

President Yoweri Museveni has broken ground for the Eucharistic Shrine at the Mt. Sion Prayer Centre in Wakiso district as thousands of Charismatic Catholics from around the country gathered for the historic event that also saw the first visit of a Head of State to the Centre.

The President, who was taken on a tour of the facility, was prayed for in the Upper Room by Monsignor Expedito Magembe, various priests and nuns. He said he was happy to be associated with the effort to build a house of worship and unite the people spiritually.

"I did not know about this place. Somebody mentioned it to me but I had never been here. I was fighting close by during the war. I'm happy to note that a place which used to be for war is now for prayer and worship. I promise to return with Janet", he said.

The President announced a Shs. 100 million donation out of which Shs.40 million was paid in cash. He commended the Church leadership for uniting the people through spiritual nourishment and urged them to mobilize them to fight poverty at the household level through engaging in cost effective enterprises.

Monsignor Expeditor Magembe hailed the President for the peace and security prevailing in the country. He singled out the Police and UPDF for ensuring the security of the believers. He said the proposed shrine is expected to cost over Shs.4billion and that they have raised over Shs.1billion.
