Aronda warns Ugandans on national identity cards

KAMPALA- "Arrest anyone who picks a national Identity card that does not belong to them," the Minister of Internal Affairs Aronda Nyakairima has directed police.
"Anyone who turns up and the finger prints do not match will be handed over to police for theft," Gen Aronda told journalists.
Speaking to the media after the launch of the issuance of the national IDs by President Museveni in Kampala on Tuesday, Gen Aronda said the distribution will begin with Kampala and then roll out to other parts of the country.
President Museveni launched the distribution exercise on Tuesday but few people have since showed up to pick their cards. At the Uganda Museum, of more than 1,500 registered people, only 20 had picked their cards by Thursday.
The ID project assistant communications manager Mr Paul Bukenya, attributed the slow turn up to the habitual public reluctance.
