{UAH} UNESCO says indigenous languages dying two every week, Runyoro-Rutooro is described as endangered and in the pipeline of those to die sooner than later.

Dear Stakeholders in Runyoro-Rutooro,

UNESCO has sounded a serious warning to indigenous languages, most prominently Runyoro-Rutooro, that they face death sooner than later. It emphatically says,

1) One indigenous language die every two weeks.

2) 600 have disappeared in the last century.

3) 90 per cent of the world's indigenous languages will disappear before the end of this century.

4) Runyoro-Rutooro is described as an endangered language, therefore in the pipeline of those to die very soon.

This is a subject to think over Xmas to New Year's Day. The above hard facts aare definately news to most stakeholders. If not why have kept quiete all these years when Runyoro-Rutooro has degenarated to the extent of being described as an endangered language.

The fact that it is not examined in Primary, Secondary and A Levels shows it is on death raw.

 The silence of the stakeholders is a silent death sentence to Runyoro-=Rutooro.

The killers of Runyoro-Rrutooro are:

a) NCDC

b) UNEB

c) DEOs in Bunyoro-Kitara and Tooro

d) Teachers,

e) Runyoro-Rutooro Language Board.

f) The Patron of RRLB

g) Cultural Institutions

 Etc,

Some people have said there is no money to develop Runyoro-Rutooro. But the money is there. the UNO is fully behind the development of indigenous languages because the world body knows that MOTHER TONGUE IS ESSENTIAL IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN UPBRINGING.

The Uganda government is fully aware that mother tongue is necessary for children to learn other subjects that is why the Government has adopted a policy off using mother tongue as a medium of instruction from nursery, to Primary one to Primary three.

My duty is to point out abnormalities and dangers facing our mother tongue. We should not put ourselves in a position where our grandchildren will accuse us of killling their language..
