BUSHENYI - The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali, has come out to oppose claims that some Christians make in relation to the presence of demons and demonic attacks.
Ntagali, who was on Friday, preaching at the 8th West Ankore Youth convention at Bweranyangi in Bushenyi, said there should not be any more talk of demonic attacks and presence among Christians.
"It's only when you believe that there can be demons, that you see them and they come to you, but if you don't believe they are there, then you will never see them. I myself do not believe in the presence of demons, and if they are there, tell them to come and attack me now," Ntagali said.
Recently, there were media reports indicating that retired Archbishop Rt Rev Luke Orombi claimed to have been attacked by demons at Namirembe.
But referring to Orombi's utterances, Ntagali dismissed any beliefs that these super natural beings are in existence.
"I have stayed at Namirembe for some good time but I have never seen any demons and there are no black cats. Let us pray that what he (Orombi) has been going through, God helps him to overcome," Ntagali said.
The Archbishop was addressing more than 10000 youth, who thronged the Bweranyangi Hill for the convention that officially started on Friday morning with the Bible exposition, led by Ntagali himself.
While preaching, hinged on this convention's theme 'Know Your Ways' Ntagali warned the youth about aimless involvement in the worldly things lest they jeopardise their future.
"If we know our good ways, not walk as fools, we shall live longer and we shall have a future. We are called upon to live in this world with a wise mind, because we are living in a terribly wicked world," Ntagali said.
Youths from the districts of Kasese, Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Mitooma, Buhweju, Sheema, Rubirizi and other areas, arrived at the venue on Thursday evening ahead of the three day event.
West Ankore Bishop Yonah Mwesigwa Katonene said the ever growing numbers show how more youth are getting closer to the religious ways of living.
Other guest speakers alongside Archbishop Ntagali will be Bishop Michael Hill from Bristol Diocese in London, who arrived with a congregation of 5 people.
Others are Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe of South Ankole, Bishop Nathan Gasatura from Rwanda, Margret Opol from UCU Mukono, Canon Johnson Twinomujuni, Zachary Veron from Australia, Maama Elivaida Nshemeire, and youth Dr Isaac Orec from Lango, among others.
President Yoweri Museveni is expected to officially close the convention on Sunday at the same venue.
