{UAH} THE OPPOSITION GAINED NOTHING FROM THE ELECTIONS
The Uganda opposition have almost 100 Opposition MPs which is a record. However, the 100 figure needs to be treated with a bit of caution. Remember that the total number of MPs has gone up tremendously in the current cycle with creation of "cities" and districts. So, the opposition has 100 as against what total? At any rate, for me, whether they are 100 or 50 counts for very little. Many of those 100 will easily be lured by Museveni's financial inducements. The system is broken and dysfunctional.
Some of those NUP 56 MPs were FDC constituencies particularly in Kampala. NUP dislodged some NRMs but also existing opposition. Remember, a good number of NUP candidates were DP incumbent MPs! In all, I don't see the opposition gains in parliament are that big considering the overall size of parliament.
But another unique thing about this election is that the Central region/Buganda appears to have left the NRM for good. I don't see MU7 reversing this trend however much money he spends on these MPs, the people have left. We are potentially looking at the Vice President coming from a different region in a long time. Also, I am hoping that Kato Lubwama who failed to even get 3,000 votes (down from 40,000+ in 2016) serves as a reminder to these new MPs.
