Man sued for $16K for allegedly not providing vehicle to Ethiopian family

breach-of-contractGRETNA – An Ethiopian man is representing himself in a lawsuit against another man he claims was to provide a vehicle to his family back in Ethiopia.

Ashenafi T. Tareke filed suit against Yonas Woyessa Gemechu in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 12.

Tareke asserts that on June 6, 2009 he entered into a contract with Gemechu who was to provide a vehicle for the plaintiff's family in Ethiopia. The plaintiff claims that he sent the defendant a total of $16,000 for the vehicle and his services, but the services and vehicle were never provided. Tareke alleges that on March 27, 2014 he executed a a promissory note with Gemechu for the return of the $16,000 and that repayments were to begin on May 15, 2014. However, the plaintiff contends the defendant has refused to make any payments.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages in the amount of $16,000 plus attorney's fees and legal costs are sought by the plaintiff.

Tareke is representing himself pro se in the case.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.

Case no. 744-165.
