The Nile River Festival kicks off this week with a big air contest on Thursday, January 22 at Nile River Explorers Campsite. The next three days will feature a variety of kayaking events that offer something for everyone. On Friday, paddlers will compete in an endurance race down 50 kilometers of the wild Nile. The Nile Special Freestyle Competition will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, and the event's final crescendo will be the Itanda Extreme Race on Sunday, January 25.
Paddlers from around the globe are gathering to compete and support the event. With the imminent construction of the Isimba Dam, it's hard to know how many Nile Festivals will be left!
The 2015 Ugandan Freestyle Kayak Team will be out in full force to showcase their talent. The team was selected in November 2014 to represent Uganda in the Freestyle Kayaking World Championships in Canada in 2015. This will be a great opportunity for the team to get competition experience under their belts in front of a hometown crowd.
Kayak the Nile is organizing the event and is sure to put on a good show for all. For further information, please contact www.kayakthenile.com.
