MUKONO - "Geoffrey, my child, why are you killing me? Are you killing me for my own property?"
Those were the last words shocked neighbours of Lameka Ssemakula Nalukadde heard as the 96-year-old man pleaded with his own children before his death.
According to neighbours, a vehicle drove into Lameka's compound at his home in Bukeerere – Seeta, Mukono district at 10.00pm local time (EAT) on the day of his demise.
"We did not think much of it because the old man always had visitors driving to his home," they said.
Some time back, unknown assailants attacked the old man and vandalized his house, breaking all window panes
However shortly after they heard the old man begging for his life; begging his own children he gave life, to spare his.
The car then drove off before they went to check what was going on.
"The old man was not at home but there was blood in the doorway. We were still puzzled about what to do the following morning, when his children who stay in Nansana came and broke the horrific news that Lameka was dead."
The old man's body had been dumped in the compound of his other home in Nansana where his daughters lived.
Lameka's daughter, Robinah Nakitende, says they woke up on the fateful morning to find their helpless father lying in the compound, frothing from the mouth and weeping, but could not talk.
They rushed him to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
War over land
The Bukeerere LCI chairperson, Lazaalo Musoke, said the deceased, a very close friend of his, had intimated to him severally that he was having misunderstandings with his children over land.
Lameka is reported to have sold land but refused to divulge the details of the transaction to his children who decided to take his life.
Musoke said that sometime back unknown assailants attacked the old man and vandalized his house, breaking all window panes.
Muwasi Muwumuza, a councillor from Mukono attests to this. He says the deceased some of his children had been demanding for land titles from him but he had refused to hand them over.
However he says it will be up to the Police to find out what exactly happened.
The Police are investigating the murder on file number CRB/31/15.
