{UAH} Ntungamo pioneer Muslim passes on
Folks;
First, my condolences to the family of the late Hajj Abudallah Biryega.
Secondly, his life and large presence in Ntungamo contract the "stories" I'd been fed about Muslims in Ankole Region. Previously, I had been led to believe that Ankole was a "No Muslim" region, and the last Muslims there were killed or kicked out at the fall of Idi Amin's regime in 1979.
In fact, in late 1979, a classmate at Mbale SS, who was a Muslim and hailed from Mbarara, fled the country, on the fear that his family was being hunted by the Liberators!
Now, here have a GGGF (great-great-grandfather) who not only brought Islam to Ntungamo, but lived most of his 102 years as a proud and prominent Muslim in that district. May be he's the exception. In any case, he left his mark to his district and, by extension, to the nation.
