KIYAGA, OMEGA, KATONDA AFIRIKA, WIFE OF GOD.   19th March 2015.   TO: AFIRIKA,     THE AFRICAN UNION   2015 YEAR OF WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS AFRICA'S AGENDA 2063   CONCENSUS BEGINS IN THE HOME     The women of Afirika have long struggled and strived to have a voice in their own homes.  It is still difficult in the majority of homes.  Until this happens, the empowerment of the women of Afirika will remain largely a myth.  The lucky ones who marry good husbands and have themselves worthy contributions to make, have been listened to.  This group is still negligible statistically.  So, the war to empower the women of Afirika continues.   The people of Afirika are staunchly proud of their culture and this is, in fact, a good thing.  The very identity of Afirika is protected by our culture.  On the other hand, our natural intelligence should also help us to discard those ideas in our culture that undermine our well-being and development.  The same natural intelligence should protect and defend us from espousing silly, inferior and/or derogatory foreign ideas about ourselves and our culture.   One of the enemy ideas  in our own culture  is the inequality of the spouses in the home.  This has very little to do with the specific jobs and /or chores performed by either spouse.  Nor has it anything to do with physical strength nor which spouse has the most money or property.  It has everything to do with CONCENSUS.  Or, indeed, the lack of it.   What Afirika needs to do urgently is to work towards a cultural evolution beginning in the home by developing the Culture of Concensus.  As charity begins at home so does concensus. Without this the empowerment of women will remain a myth. The men of Afirika have to work concensually with the women after conceding that the women are naturally powerful and have great and positive contributions to make, not only in the home but in society as a whole. And having thus conceded let the women get on with making these contributions by concensus.  Women naturally welcome the support of men and where it is required or crucial women are never too proud to ask for it.  An amicable, peaceful and natural resolution to a simple problem.   Thank you.     MRS MARGARET V.N.
