Justice Kanyeihamba sobs as Kavuma is approved

Justice Wilson Kanyeihamba and Western Uganda youths MP Gerald Karuhanga yesterday failed to block the vetting of Justice Steven Kavuma as Deputy Chief Justice.

This was after Constitutional Court officials refused to receive the petition challenging Kavuma's appointment. In anguish, Justice Kanyeihamba broke down and cried, accusing the judiciary of being run by the mafia.

They argued that the veteran Justice was not nominated for the post by the Judicial Service Commission, but was instead unconstitutionally appointed by President Museveni.

Gerald Karuhanga was stunned when the court registrar's office refused to receive the petition.

The veteran judge rushed to the Constitutional Court and inquired why the officers had refused to receive the petition. They moved office to office, with all clerks refusing to receive the petition. Professor Kanyeihamba broke down and cried, accusing Justice Steven Kavuma of frustrating the petition.

In 2013, the same Gerald Karuhanga unsuccessfully tried to block Justice Steven Kavuma's stay in office as acting Chief Justice.
