Councilor Sewanyana Remanded To Luzira

Makindye Councilor Allan Sewanyana
The Makindye Division Councilor at KCCA Allan Sewanyana has been arraigned before Buganda Road Court and charged with four charges relating to defamation.

Sewanyana appeared before Grade One Magistrate Pemela Ocaya and denied the charges.

Prosecution claims that a few months back while presenting his Lunch Time Sports on NBS TV and Ekisowani Kye’mizanyo on Top TV, Sewanyana made defamatory statement against a sports betting company named Top Bet.

Sewanyana allegedly stated on the programs that the company doesn’t pay winning tickets and that it was created to steal people’s money. The comments were deemed as inciting the public against the company.

Sewanyana through his lawyers led by Chrysostom Katumba applied to be release on bail and presented five sureties whom he asked court to find substantial.

In response State Prosecutor Esther Nalungi opposed Sewanyana’s release saying he would interfere with the investigation which are still on going.

The Magistrate reserved her ruling for Monday and remanded Sewanyana until then.
