{UAH} Dr Edward Kayondo

Comrade Dr kayondo,

I went for my regular check-ups with my consultant at Lewisham
Hospital in London this morning and I am afraid she did not give me
much to cheer. The good news is that all of my body organs, liver,
bones, chest are all relatively OK. My breathing has stabilised, so I
don't need to use a breatherliser anymore, although I still get
breathless when I attempt any strenous exercise like climbing stairs,
running even short distances etc.

Now the bad news is my eyes. When she told me about my eyes, I thought
it was April 1st Fools joke. It took me a while to realise she was
serious. She said there is something very eriously wrong with my left
eye- and a preliminary test revealed I am almost 70% blind that eye. I
have been feeling a loss of sight in my left eye for the last one
year, but I have always just gone to the Optician who simply
prescribed new varifocal lenses each time I complained I could not use
my glasses any more. But the Consultant told me I am been endangering
my life by even driving and causing long term damage to my eye. From
her assessment, she thinks that either I have got cataract or there is
internal bleeding into my eyes which needs to be checked immediately
by a specialist Opthalmologist. In fact she was so worried about me
she booked me an appointment tomorrow to see the Opthalmologist in
another hospital outside London ( Stoke Mandeville Hospital) because
the waiting lists in London are at least two months long. Most likely,
I will have an operation this weekend.

I am really very upset with thei disease called Sarcoid. I am tired
and fed up with it. I don't want to looses my sight, althouigh I know
it is likely because my late father spent the last 15 years of his
life blind.

I will let you know how it develops.
