{UAH} Star trail: Lupita Nyong’o flies Ugandan flag

Star trail: Lupita Nyong'o flies Ugandan flag

Since her arrival in Uganda weeks ago, Oscar-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong'o has been doing more than act in Mira Nair's Queen of Katwe. She has endeared Uganda to many through her Facebook and Instagram gushing.

One of the most popular posts was an aerial shot captioned: "Uganda, Obulungi bwo bunzita", Luganda for "Uganda, your beauty is killing me."
The photo gathered more than 2,520 likes, and was shared over 150 times on Facebook alone. On Instagram, the same photo had a whopping 26,388 likes by Monday morning.

Her social media also features photos with Maisha Film Lab director Mira Nair and one taken from inside Gaddafi mosque and captioned "‪#‎GaddafiMosque‬ ‪#‎Kampala‬, with at least 8,300 likes.

She has also attended charity events and made an appearance at last weekend's Isaiah Katumwa jazz show featuring Hugh Masekela.

Too bad the Ugandan government does not provide incentives for filmmakers like Kenya and South Africa do, and for that reason, the bigger part of Queen of Katwe is going to be shot in South Africa, taking with it our short-lived tourism ambassador, Lupita.

JULIANA AND IRYN BURY HATCHET

We thought the one-time best friends would never mend their badly-bruised relationship, but clearly age mellows things a lot.
Juliana Kanyomozi and Iryn Namubiru, who started their singing careers as I-Jay, pleasantly surprised jazz patrons when they sat together during last weekend's Isaiah Katumwa concert at Serena hotel.
Iryn was the first to arrive and Juliana entered later and took the seat next to Iryn. They spent the whole evening chatting and taking selfies. They also posed for photos together after the show.

Rumour number one had it, they fell out over a man. Part two of the rumour mill had it that Nince Henry penned a song for Juliana but somehow it ended up with Iryn and it turned out to be the monster hit, Birowoozo further driving a wedge between the two. But by the look of things Friday night, the divas have moved on.

INZI EXCITES PARISHIONERS

Mulago parish held a charity marathon last weekend. Some of the key figures at the event were Olympic gold medalist, Dorcus Inzikuru, and His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, among others.
Many who were seeing Inzi for the first time, took the opportunity to take snaps with the 'Arua gazelle', who had issues with sharing her infectious smile. She eventually won the marathon with a time of 18:54:62.
All proceeds went towards constructing Africa's largest grotto for Mother Mary. Centenary bank contributed Shs 5m to the fund.

ARE MR MOSH AND LYDIA JASMINE AN ITEM?

Retired dancehall musician and now Urban TV host Mr Mosh was spotted all over upcoming musician Lydia Jasmine at the Radio and Weasel concert.
Star Trail spotted them cuddling backstage as she sat on his lap without a care in the world. It is like the people around them did not exist. They did not even care when the roaming paparazzi took photos of them.
Well, all the best…

MC PERCY BOUNCED

MC Percy has been in this industry for many years. He is the official MC for Club Silk. He also has a show on NBS TV. But what happened when he turned up at Hotel Africana for the Goodlyfe concert was not cool.
He jumped the queue that had many ticket holders and journalists waiting to access the venue. On reaching the VIP entrance, however, the bouncers could not read his face value.
He even unleashed his Silk ID, given that Silk Events was handling the event. Still the big men did not budge and continued shoving him aside until he decided to move back and buy a ticket before accessing the venue.
Buying the ticket saves time, Percy, doesn't it now!?

MISS KAMPALA ROYALE IS HERE

Seems beauty contests are soon becoming the most competitive ventures around town. As you read this, Miss Kampala Royale has been launched.
The show is aimed at appreciating the beauty of people living in the five divisions of Kampala; Kawempe, Lubaga, Makindye, Nakawa and Central.
The pageant officially launched last week at Serena hotel Kampala with the registration of girls expected to start on May 20.
According to Stephen Asera, one of the organisers, Miss Kampala Royale is not just a beauty contest, but a project that will build the participants' self-esteem and confidence.
The finale is expected in September.
