Wakiso- President Museveni has blamed the late Mary Nanfuka Kisekka's
family for flying her abroad for specialised treatment without his
knowledge. Nanfuka, 91, was wife to former vice president, the late
Samson Kisekka who died of breathing complications.
Speaking at the burial of the late in Temangalo, Wakiso District,
yesterday, the President said Nanfuka, given her advanced age, should
not have been flown abroad.
"When someone grows old, they need some rest in a comfortable
environment. I don't know whether it was my brother or sister
(Kisekka's children) who had taken her to Boston. But, I was concerned
when I received the information. I immediately liaised with our
ambassador at the UN to bring her back," Mr Museveni said.
Mr Museveni described her as a holy person because of her commitment
to her religious faith. "She never drank or engaged in elusive acts.
She was a hard-working woman. Every time, I visited this home, I would
find her at her farm. It is not common to describe a person as holy,
but I think she deserves to be called holy," he said.
"I ask the children of this family to emulate their parents. Copy
their behaviours, love, work hard and have respect for all," the
President added.
Mr Samson Kisekka Jr, who spoke on behalf of the family, refuted
claims that government abandoned their mother after the death of their
father. "Your excellence, you have done a lot for our family. You have
stood with us in good and bad times. We disagree with people who say
that you neglected our mother. That is not true at all," Mr Kisekka
said.
The deputy chief justice, Steven Kavuma, said there was no need to
mourn but to celebrate the life of a great woman.
