2015 Emerging Leaders Scholarship Program
         
  • *DEADLINE for scholarship applications is August 1st, 2015 (No exceptions).
  • Refer to criteria below for eligibility requirements. Refer to application process below for a list of the supporting documents needed (i.e., reference forms, evidence of GPA, etc.) Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Purpose
The Ugandan North American Association provides scholarships of $1,000 annually to Ugandan college students in North America showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need while attending an accredited higher-level educational institution. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluated essays that are submitted. Scholarships are intended for future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study.
 
Award Components
Each year UNAA will select two [2] recipients, each of whom will receive a $1,000 annual scholarship that rewards Ugandan college students pursuing higher-level education.
 
Award Criteria
  • Be currently attending an accredited and approved higher-level educational institution within North America;
  • Show leadership potential;
  • Demonstrate a dedication to community service;
  • Present evidence of financial need;
  • A minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale;
  • Not possess a degree from a 4-year college or university when applying for the scholarship.
Application Components
Applicant must submit the following items:
  • A completed and submitted application;

  • A 400-450 word essay on "What would you like to do to change Uganda and the lives of Ugandans for the better?";
  • Two (2) character references in the form of a letter of recommendation;
  • Current college transcript sent to UNAA directly from the attended school. 
Deadline for the application is Saturday, August 1st, 2015. Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered. Incomplete applications will be considered.

About UNAA New Orleans 2015
The 27th Annual UNAA Convention and Trade Expo will take place over three days; September 4 - 6 2015 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans showcasing program and forums including Trade & Investment, Technology, Health, Education, Political as well as a forum on Intergenerational relationships between immigrants and their children born in the Diaspora.
 
The Saturday Dinner Cruise is a popular culinary event complete with a dance to both live performances by popular artists and DJ music - aboard a magnificent marine vessel sailing into the spectacular Mississippi River sunset. Proceeds from the Fashion Show Auction during the Sunday Gala Dinner will go towards the Emerging Leaders Scholarship Program.

Over 50 exhibiting companies and vendors featuring the latest world class Ugandan culture, produce, music, books, literature, arts crafts, Jewelry, clothing, foods, etc. will gather under the theme "Better Together: Investing in our future through education".
