{UAH} World Bank Group: African Diaspora Trade and Investment Survey

Dear Participating Organization,

On behalf of the World Bank Group Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice and the African Development Bank Group, you are cordially invited to participate in our global African diaspora trade survey. The purpose of this survey is to obtain a glimpse into the African diaspora and determine ways through which its members can best contribute to economic development in their countries of origin. Furthermore, the survey seeks to shed light on barriers to trade experienced by the African diaspora. The potential wealth and talent existing in the African diaspora is enormous; research estimates that US $53 billion is saved on an annual basis by the Africans abroad. It is also estimated that by 2040, Africa will have a larger workforce than China or India. To capitalize on this growth, targeted enterprise growth is vital in areas such as food supply, healthcare services, and educational solutions, among others. With careful planning and sufficient information, the large African diaspora is uniquely positioned to benefit from this massive growth through new opportunities, while also positively contributing to the continent.

Initial findings from the survey were presented at the inaugural Engaging the African Diaspora in Trade & Education Forum on June 10th at The World Bank Group, here in Washington, DC. The results of this survey are highly relevant to both the diaspora and home governments for policy and business purposes. Activities in which the diaspora is involved were highlighted, and African policymakers will gain insights on ways to attract their diaspora populations to promote trade and investment. Your participation in this survey is therefore vital for valuable insights into the African diaspora. We also ask that you forward this survey to members of your African diaspora network. By participating in this survey, you are playing an active role in the development of the continent. Below is a link to the survey:
