ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Sometimes, a short visit can go a long way.

That was the goal for Captain Ron Johnson of the Missouri Highway Patrol.

"When he first walked in the door, there was kind of an uncertainty," Capt. Johnson said.

He spent the day as a mentor for a 12-year-old boy on a journey. A journey that began almost 8,000 miles away.

"He was living in just deplorable conditions," said Roxanne Robbins.

Robbins first met Wasswa on a mission trip to Uganda, he was in bad shape.

"At that point he was almost emaciated, he was just a skeleton," she said. "And I remember buying him a coke and he couldn't lift it."
