{UAH} what is your experience about the imported products on market today?
About a year ago, the Ministry of Trade (MoT) introduced preshipment inspection of goods to be imported into Uganda at the point export before coming into Uganda under the PIVOC project. Uganda's standards body, the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has been implementing it through accredited institutions since. Actually, traders under their umbrella KACITA went on strike at the start over the implementation methodology and the cost that seemed like revenue collection.
This suggests therefore, that for a year plus, the goods on Uganda's market (ranging from building accessories like tiles, door locks, electricals to cosmetics) are now expected to be of relatively higher quality, safer for our use and more durable. For example, an electric extension cable in shops must be better quality today than the case before PIVOC.
Friends, what is your experience about the imported products on market today? Are they better than they were a year ago so that we applaud UNBS for a jobe well done?
