{UAH} Fwd: {UPCPost} Police impound Mbabazi T-shirts at Malaba border
TRUTH EVERY DAY
Sunday Monitor
Tororo-Police at the border town of Malaba have intercepted two
consignments of T-shirts branded with Mr Amama Mbabazi logo, which were in
transit to Kampala.
Bukedi regional police spokesperson, Michael Odongo confirmed the
consignments had been impounded. He said police and Uganda Revenue
Authority enforcement officers at Malaba customs intercepted bales of the
T-shirts, which were aboard a bus from Nairobi heading to Kampala.
Mr Odongo explained that the bus belonging to Pampa Travellers was
intercepted at around 4am and the T-shirts were branded with Mr Mbabazi's
logo.
"The bales were being disguised as second hand clothes, but on proper
scrutiny, our intelligence officers discovered they were Mbabazi's T-shirts.
The police arrested and interrogated the driver and the conductor, who
revealed they were just given the two bales by a one John to deliver at
Nakawa," Mr Odongo said.
The bus driver, Mr Martin Kanoni, told police that the two bales were
loaded in Nairobi by a one John, who directed him to deliver them to the
specified location. Police released the driver and the conductor but
retained the T-shirts.
"The police have decided to keep the intercepted bales of Mbabazi's
T-shirts at Tororo Central Police Station waiting to see if anybody comes
up to claim them," Mr Odongo said.
Mr Mbabazi was arrested by police on Thursday at Njeru in Jinja as he
travelled to Mbale District to address his first meeting since he declared
his intention to stand for presidency in 2016.
His supporters have been arrested in various parts of the country and the
NRM party has accused him of breaking the law by starting campaigns without
approval of the party.
