Police in Bukomansimbi District are holding a health worker accused of stealing a microscope.
The suspect reportedly stole the equipment from Kabigi Health Centre III in Butenga Sub-county in Bukomansimbi.
It all started when the microscope went missing last Thursday, which prompted the suspect to report the matter to police that responded by visiting the facility to start investigations. The suspect was incriminating workers at the health unit, especially a laboratory assistant identified as Moses Dungu for being involved in theft of the microscope.
However, the official was found making frantic telephone calls in the corridors of the facility, informing an unidentified person that she wanted Shs3 million, which created suspicion among the team of police officers, who were at the health unit, to record statements from the health workers.
Mr Osibus Tumwine, the officer in charge of Butenga Police Station, said they ordered the suspect to lead police officers to her home for a search, and the team was surprised to land on the microscope hidden under her bed.
He said police has also recovered suspected stolen medicine in the official's house.
Police investigates
The Southern region police spokesperson, Mr Noah Sserunjogi, confirmed the arrest, saying police investigations into the matter are on-going.
Mr Sserunjogi said preliminary investigations indicate that the stolen microscope was donated to the health unit by the government under the Malaria Control Programme of malaria consortium.
Mr Sserunjogi said the recovered medicine will be used as exhibit, adding that the suspect is likely to face charges of theft when police investigations are complete.
Gwokto La'Kitgumvery high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders."
