Efforts by the Ugandan opposition to form an alliance with the intention of ending 30 years in power of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), have been severely criticised for lacking a sense of direction and lacking a criteria needed to choose a flag bearer to stand against the incumbent in next year's general election.

In an exclusive interview with The London Evening Post conducted while he was at his home in New York Sunday afternoon, Prof Eric Kashambuzi, a career diplomat and Secretary General of the United Democratic Ugandans (UDU) accused former Kampala deputy Bishop, Dr Zack Niringiye for going back on what was discussed when Ugandans based in Kampala travelled to The Hague in the Netherlands and met with their Diaspora counterparts to forge a way towards ending Mr Museveni's hold onto power. During their three-day deliberations, representatives from Uganda and in the Diaspora formed a common front, not only to defeat the National NRM democratically, but more significantly to agree on how Uganda would be governed in a way that would deter the country from falling into a civil war.

"When we met in The Hague in November 2013, we agreed on ways under which we would proceed to remove the despotic regime of Yoweri Museveni," Prof Kashambuzi said. "At first we said we establish a focal point at home and abroad, and agreed to consult one another on how to proceed," Kashambuzi explained. He added: "Following our meeting in The Hague, Bishop Niringiye went on a tour of Europe and the United States and I personally arranged for him to meet some people [in New York] and we discussed individually and collectively on how to proceed."
