Nurse selling stolen ARVs arrested

Written by URN

A nursing assistant in Apac district has been arrested for selling stolen antiretroviral drugs. Betty Achion who runs a private drug shop in Aduku Town Council was found selling ARVs marked with 'Government of Uganda, Not for Sale' mark.
Police recovered the ARVs in an operation at her Hope Drug Shop in Aduku. The operation followed a tip off by members of the community.
The CID officer at Aduku police station, Victor Ecap says they recovered 99 tins of ARV drugs from the drug shop. Ecap said they have preferred charges of theft and being in possession of government stores against the suspect.
Area LC 1 chairperson for Teduka cell where the clinic is located, Filder Acio said that this was not the first time government drugs are recovered from the same facility.
Acio says the suspect has been selling the drugs to people within Aduku. Police says the suspect is believed to have acquired the drugs from government health facilities within the district. Police urged members of the public who bought ARVs from the facility to record statements at the police.
Acihon however denies selling government drugs in her facility. The suspect is being held at Aduku police station as she awaits being produced in court.
