TDA talks pushed to Friday

KAMPALA. A summit meeting of the Opposition coalition, The Democratic Alliance, will reconvene on Friday for further talks on the way forward, after one called yesterday ended without a resolution.
"The summit did commit to reconvene to consider the continuing cooperation in pursuit of the goals of the alliance. The summit meeting today was for that purpose.
"The summit will reconvene again on Friday to continue this discussion," Mr Wafula Oguttu, the spokesperson of TDA, said in a brief statement after the meeting.
Mr Oguttu said the discussion centered on how the members of the summit will cooperate and what shape that cooperation will take.
Speaking after the meeting, presidential aspirant Amama Mbabazi emphasised the need for a united front in the alliance as it heads to the 2016 polls.
"At any rate, that desirability of having a united front, a political force in favour of change, is all round. It is in the population. If the leaders can't unite, I am sure the people will," he said.
When asked about allegations that he had bribed some members of the summit to support him as the joint Opposition presidential candidate, the former prime minister retorted: "Anyone who told you that is an idiot."
The leadership of the Democratic Party (DP), Go Forward Pro-Change, People's Progressive Party (PPP), Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA), Uganda People's Congress (UPC) backed Mr Mbabazi's candidature while Dr Kizza Besigye, the FDC flag bearer, was endorsed by his party and Conservative Party (CP).
Following the impasse, the TDA summit resolved that the two go separate ways in the pursuit for change, using a two-pronged approach against the incumbent, President Museveni.
The members, however, agreed to remain in touch and cooperate at various levels.
