For Donald Trump's fans, it is in large part his independence from "big money politics that has attracted them to his presidential campaign.

Wealthy enough to fund his own ambitions, the billionaire businessman has bragged about turning down "millions" of dollars worth of donations, so that the only interests he represents are those of the Americans whose votes he is courting.

But a hard look at The Donald's campaign finances has revealed that he is more deeply embedded in the US election money-machine than he will publically admit.

Like the other presidential candidates, Mr Trump is aligned with a super political action committee (PAC), which has been quietly collecting cheques from wealthy donors, according to an investigation by the Washington Post.

The newspaper has uncovered links to suggest that Mr Trump has endorsed the activities of the 'Make America Great Again' PAC, which, unlike a presidential candidate's campaign, is not bound by limitations on how much an individual can donate.

The super PAC, which shares the name of Mr Trump's campaign, is a beneficiary of donations from the mother-in-law of Ivanka, Mr Trump's daughter, and has hired a Republican operative who previously worked with Corey Lewandowski, Mr Trump's campaign manager, as a consultant.

Mr Lewandowski has denied that Mr Trump endorsed the creation of the super PAC, at one point threatening to file a lawsuit against the Washington Post if the story of was reported.

He also initially denied knowing Mike Ciletti, the consultant to the super PAC. He then changed his answer, saying he "knew a lot of people" and then hanging up the telephone, after it emerged that the Trump campaign had paid tens of thousands of dollars to WizBang Solutions, a small printing company of which Mr Ciletti is the director.

Mr Lewandowski is said to have previously hired Mr Ciletti's company for the creation of election pamphlets in 2014 when he worked for Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group.

This year Mr Ciletti visited Mr Trump's campaign headquarters in May and June, just as groundwork was being laid for creating the PAC, sources told the Washington Post.

Dozens of PACs have sprung up in support of Mr Trump, but his campaign has stressed that they do not have connections with them.

Mr Trump attended at least two events for the Make America Great Again PAC this summer. The event in August took place in New Jersey at the mansion of Seryl and Charles Kushner, the in-laws of Mr Trump's daughter, and guests were given information about how to donate, and reportedly wrote several checks.

The revelations could be damaging for the Republican frontrunner that has worked hard to position himself as the only presidential candidate who is not "in cahoots" with rich and powerful special interest lobbies in Washington.

very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
