Uganda: Somali Embassy extorts its people
The Embassy's first secretary orders the detention of Somali people at the airport by the Ugandan Police.
First Secretary Khadar Hassan Warjid established a network of a group of people that notify him the movement of Somali people that are traveling through Entebbe international Airport.
Mr. Warjid asked the police to arrest and detain them behind the scene or without showing up. And then he goes to the imprisoned persons that they were arrested for a serious crime and unless they pay 7,000 U.S dollar they will never regain their freedom.
" Government of Uganda detained 10 civilians and while they are in jail Mr. Warjid and his colleagues picked up the issue and told the Somali civilians to pay 7,000 U.S dollar each person for the return of their freedom," said a victim who had been in custody due to lack of ransom, who asked not to be named for security concerns.
General Mohamed Hassan participated in the release of those Somali people.
Uganda officers arrested and detained Jama Abdi Timir on suspicion of links to terrorism. Mr. Timir shared his relatives that he was asked to pay 4,000 U.S dollar for his release by Mr. Warjid.
"Mr. Warjid warned if Mr. Timir did not pay that amount of money his case would be sent to a hell, where nobody could help him out," said Mohamed Khalif, A Somali expat in Uganda.
Mr. Timir had no idea who Mr. Warjid was.
The First Secretary uses a fake name Ali Khadar and he worked against the Somali communities in Uganda. He also used divide and rule tactics to allow himself to control the Somali community. He also intimidated the teenagers that resisted collaborating with him.
Mr. Warjid himself is a known member of Al-Qaeda affiliated group of Al-Shabaab but managed to deceive the security personnel and established a friendship with them. Sharif Sheikh Ahmed appointed him as the first secretary and Ambassador Sayid Ahmed Dahir remained to be nonentity person that receives the money extorted from his Somali refugees.
