NRM delegates paid Shs10.5b to attend conference

The ruling NRM party has spent at least Shs10.5b to facilitate the stay of its delegates who convened at Namboole stadium since last Friday to elect new party leaders.
Each of the 22,000 delegates that attended the party meetings at the stadium pocketed Shs500,000 to facilitate their accommodation and other needs.
Deputy secretary general Richard Todwong confirmed this saying: "Each person was given Shs500,000.
Some of the delegates, especially those from upcountry, were seen in jubilation after receiving the money, which was being given out at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds where accreditation of the delegates took place.
The delegates, who were treated to free food and drinks danced throughout their stay in Namboole as they campaigned for their preferred candidates.
However, some of the delegates were disappointed after failing to receive a share of the money.
District councillors and their committees who had come for the conference were not paid after officials at Kololo informed them that they were not eligible.
Only MPs, district chairpersons, sub-county chairpersons and members of the party's Central Executive Committee and the National Executive Committee were eligible to attend and receive facilitation.
