{UAH} BWANIKA: Uganda: Oil Waste Managers Face Lean Days, Criticism Over Standards

This scares me and it is very troubling. The research I conducted way back in the 80's in sweden (former oil port/depot) about oil waste shocked me. I had to take 1 1/2 year classe in conservational biology to fully understand the problem and impact as my research unfolded revealing how water, soil, air, animals, birds and plants after many years after closing down the facility were completey contaminated. Soil here had to be shipped out and retreated too!

In fact a fresh water lake where the port/depot was located was knocked out and over 70000 tones of fish perished in a singe day, not to mention how the entire wetland ecology along that depot was destroyed.

The enormous cost for both the country, the people who lived off fishing and water activities, are still continuing and counting. It is terrible!

I hope someone will get some sense and stop creating multiple waste handling facilities (hoima, nakasongola )since that spreads the oil waste risk over a wide range of Bunyoro land surface. These people should stop telling lies that they can completely clean the waste - notice the word stablise not cleaned!
