{UAH} IT'S NOW OVER SIX DAYS SINCE DP STAFFER ZAIDI NSUBUGA WAS PICKED UP
IT'S NOW OVER SIX DAYS SINCE DP STAFFER ZAIDI NSUBUGA WAS PICKED UP ON KAYIHURA'S ORDERS AND IS BEING HELD INCOMMUNICADO AT THE NOTORIOUS KIREKA S.I.U.
We demand the unconditional release of Mr. Zaidi Nsubuga who is part of our DP Headquarters security team. He was picked up over six days ago and detained in an unknown location. It is only yesterday that we were able to trace his whereabouts.
It is unlawful to detain a person for more that 48 hours without producing them before a competent court. The continued detention of Zaidi is a violation of his constitutional rights. The Commandant of the Flying Squad which arrested him claims that he is being investigated. The police should not first arrest someone then purport to investigate. Arrests cannot be carried out in the absence of a probable cause and a prima facie case.
We know that after the Ntungamo debacle where goons clad in NRM T-Shirts were disarmed and dispersed by Amama Mbabazi's security detail the state has unleashed terror on all TDA partners. We learnt that they thought Zaidi was also part of the fracas. We understand completely the actions of the team that acted in self defence against the aggression by goons hired by the NRM in Ntungamo and we did not expect the police to behave in a blatantly partisan manner.
For the record we state that Zaidi was not in Ntungamo because the DP security team only moves together with DP leadership. That is the period when we lost Hon. Namaganda and Zaidi was in Bukomansimbi for several days. Museveni and the police should not behave like a man who gets thumped in a bar brawl then takes out his anger on his innocent wife and children.''
