Brigadier General Akagu is from Ankpa in Kogi State while her husband is from Enugu Ngwo in Enugu State.

Brigadier General Wanda joined the Nigerian Army in the mid-1980s, and he attended Nigerian Military School, Zaria.

The fact that the couple have different last names is not unusual, as some military personnel do keep their last names for administrative purposes, especially if they met on the job. SaharaReporters learned that the distinguished Nigerian army officers met when they were both commissioned officers and got married.

Whereas Brigadier General Akagu and Brigadier General Wanda are not the first commissioned officers to be married in the Nigerian Army, they hold the distinction of being the first to attain the rank of Brigadier General as a married couple.Brigadier General Clifford Wanda and his wife, Brigadier General Cecilia AkaguSahara Reporters MediaBrigadier General Cecilia Akagu being decorated with Brigadier General rankSahara Reporters MediaBrigadier General Cecilia AkaguSahara Reporters MediaBrigadier General Clifford Wanda and his wife, Brigadier General Cecilia AkaguSahara Reporters Media

"But this I know, UPC believed and still believes in
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
