{UAH} GEN. BIRARO AND LATE SERWANGA LWANGA

l enjoyed NRA parade on national day or occasion at Kololo and else
where whose Parade Commander was now Maj.Gen. Birarao deputized by the
late Lt.Col. Serwanga Lwanga or vice versa. Today, while we mark 30
years of liberation, and as l wass watching live coverage at Fort
Portral by UBC TV, l remembered the pair, the latter having been my
friend.
Uganda has transformed politically, for a former famous parade
commander is now Presidential Candidate. The late Pangarasio Onek did
not have that chance as his governments, Obote l fell in 1971, AMin;
in 1979, and he might have ended u;p in prison and exile. He was
however a regular visitor on the parades in early years of NRM , as a
watcher, thanks to the peace that had been ushered in.
We should now fight factionalism in NRM not only at the top but even
at regional levels, otherwise it will affect our performance in next
elections.
