Mbabazi meeting with Scot DeLisi when the latter was still the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda

Presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi has Thursday morning held a secret meeting with several western diplomats accredited to Uganda, Chimp Corps exclusively report.

The meeting held at Mbabazi's plush home in the leafy Kololo suburb of Kampala was attended by envoys of Sweden, Norway, UK, Ireland, Netherlands and European Union.

Sources told this website that the meeting which kicked off at 7:00am ended at around 10:00am.

The agenda of the meeting remains unclear to us.

However, diplomats were seen carrying heavy briefcases to Mbabazi's residence.

"We suspect that diplomats were carrying money to fund Mbabazi's last leg of his campaign because we have been doing badly in terms of finances," said a source in Mbabazi's Go Forward camp who spoke to this website on condition of anonymity.

The development comes high on the heels of deep concerns that western diplomats have been supportive of Mbabazi's presidential bid.

ChimpReports was unable to immediately obtain comments from the parties at the Kololo meeting.

Mbabazi recently said he would set up a parallel tally centre to monitor the election exercise.

He further stated that the international community would not allow any kind of rigging.

Mbabazi late last year started off his campaign for the presidency by meeting with United States Congressmen, pollsters and influential opinion leaders in United States.

He later travelled to Europe where he mobilised for funding and media support.

It is alleged Mbabazi's Diaspora connections were facilitated by former U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, Scot DeLisi.

Mbabazi's deep ties with the western world were also underscored by the TDA meetings held in foreign capitals.

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and ex International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Moreno Ocampo sat down Mbabazi and Dr Kizza Besigye to agree on a joint presidential candidate in vain.

While Mbabazi insisted he had a strong base right from the grassroots level, Besigye would later tell press that the former premier's commitment to an accountable government was almost non-existent.

It is understood that at the time, Mbabazi had convinced the international community that as an old broom he fully understood the ruling party's system which he would easily dismantle.

With Besigye thrice failing to remove Museveni from power, several westerners had bought into Mbabazi's narrative.

Mbabazi had as well held successful rallies in Eastern Uganda and provoked police to commit a series of mistakes thus enjoying unlimited local and international press coverage and pomp.

However, tables turned when Besigye held a mother of all rallies in Kampala after his nomination.

Polls and campaign rallies across the country would eventually show that indeed Besigye was more popular than Mbabazi.

The timing of the Kololo meeting is likely to discomfort the ruling establishment considering that the country is preparing for elections just a few weeks from now.

The venue of the meeting will also raise eyebrows.
