David Sejusa arrives at the Genral Court Martial on Tuesday morning

The trial proceedings against former head of national intelligence Gen David Sejusa kicked off this morning at the General Court Martial in Makindye, Kampala.

Gen Sejusa, who spent two days in detention at the Makindye Army barracks, was picked from his house in Naguru by Military Police on Sunday morning.

The court proceedings however were momentarily short-lived as the Court Chairman Maj. Gen Levi Karuhanga ordered a 15 minute recess at the request of the defense counsels.

The Defense lawyers submitted that they were not given a copy of the charges against the renegade Gen. Sejusa.

Gen Sejusa is facing a number of charges which include Participating in political party activities contrary to Section 16 of the Political Parties and Organizations Act. He is also accused of insubordinate behavior contrary to 136 of the UPDF Act.

Others charges include Absence without leave (having lefty the country and exiled himself in the UK for 20 months) as well as Conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline.
