{UAH} Republic of South Sudan Confirmed Member of EAC
A day back, President Museveni left Uganda for a three-day working visit to Tanzania. He was expected to attend the 17th ordinary summit for the East African Community Heads of State. Top on the Agenda of this summit was the admission of South Sudan into the EAC. The President's visit is so far going as planned following the confirmation of the Republic of South Sudan as a member state of the EAC. The theme for this summit was the advancement of market-driven integration.
South Sudan being a member state now brings that theme to life. Uganda's main export partners are South Sudan (15 percent of exports), Kenya (10 percent), DR Congo, Netherlands, Germany, South Africa and UAE. The pending bid at the moment is Somalia's request to join the community. During the Presidential Debate, President Museveni emphasized the need for Africa to build its own Centre of Gravity. He's continuously emphasized that he will only leave power when East Africa is united.
Uganda and Tanzania also agreed on plans to build an oil pipeline between Tanga and Uganda covering a distance of 1,120km and projected to employ 15,000 people.
