Kabaka sued over land, summoned by court

The High court has summoned Buganda king Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi to defend himself against accusations by a city resident for allegedly refusing to renew his lease. 

The complainant is Samuel Miwanda Katongole, a resident of Katwe, a Kampala city suburb.

In his suit through his lawyers of Tumusiime, Kabega & Co Advocates, Katongole claims to be the rightful owner of the contested land, which he inherited from his father, Aineya Katongole.
 
The contested land is plot 1082 on block 7 in Katwe. Court has given the Kabaka 15 days to file in his defense from the date of receipt of the summons, adding that court will not hesitate to proceed judgment in his absentia should he fail to respond.

Katongole wants orders blocking the Kabaka from holding onto the land in question as the Nte clan land, claiming to be the rightful owner on grounds that he obtained a lease from Buganda Land Board in 2011.
 
He also wants court to issue a temporary order restraining the Kabaka and his agents from leasing the said land to any other person since he has complied with all the development and building plans on top of paying the necessary dues to Buganda Land Board until the main suit is heard and disposed off.
