Several dozens of people have been injured at police training school in Masindi district after tents where they were seeking shelter were brought down by heavy hailstorms during Saturday heavy down pour.

According to our reporter attending the function where President Museveni is expected to preside over the pass out, the injured are mainly locals who included the young and the elderly who had come to witness the function.

"Currently police and military ambulances are evacuating the injured to neighboring hospitals in Masindi town "Our reporter says.

He adds that the number of the injured are about 20 but there are fears that the number could increase.

Locals described the incident as a punishment and curse to the police trainees who destroyed their gardens like vermins during their course of their training.

The marauding police trainees from the Police Training School Kabalye have always been accused by residents of stealing and destroying several hectares of sugarcane.

They are accused of invading of sugarcane farms on a regular basis and taking the cane with impunity as early as 8:00 am.

"The recruits had turned into pests. The rate at which they were destroying our cane has exceeded that of baboons," One of the locals said.

Residents said that they had no capacity to stop the trainees from invading sugarcane gardens.

"I think it is the reason why such incident has happened because of what they did to us. They have left us poor and our gods are also aggrieved by their conducts, this is a curse." Another resident said.

It is further indicated that these police trainees have been beating up residents whenever they could attempt to chase them from gardens.
