{UAH} UNAA Causes was the stress buster
Lutalo sang more than 20 songs, leaving the audience crazy. Barely-dressed, mostly plus-sized women joined him on stage, showering him with hugs and dollars.
"He is my favourite," said Firiex, who travelled from Alberta, Canada. Like the rest of us, however, she wondered why some women turned up 'naked' for the show.
There was one wearing just pink underwear; another wore just a transparent dress with waist-high slits on both sides, showing all and sundry her thong.
"Some of these ladies need psychiatrists; how do you leave your home naked?! Maybe they are allergic to clothes…" Firiex wondered, referring to another Ugandan woman who went for the boat cruise almost naked.
Much desired but missed were Sheebah Karungi, Rema Namakula and activist Frank Gashumba. The trio were advertised but never showed up.
According to the chief organizer David Muwanga, the next conventions will have discussion forums especially about business.
"We are slowly adjusting; UNAAC is still a baby; that is why we brought Nancy Kacungira to launch the USA/Africa business expo. Those coming to Las Vegas next year are going to benefit more, businesswise," said Muwanga.
Even politicians Erias Lukwago and Winnie Kiiza who were given a chance to address the group, focused more on entertainment and less politics. Lukwago's only political statement was to call on Ugandans in the diaspora to participate in changing governance in Uganda.
Kiiza, who was strangely repeatedly referred to as Winnie Byanyima by most speakers, only launched the UNAA Causes initiative on clean water in Uganda, a brainchild of former Africa boxing champion Fred Kaddu.
Instead of high-profile politicians, organisers opted for Tooro Princess Ruth Komuntale to open the convention, and Prince David Wasajja was supposed to close it, but he was a no-show.
According to Edris Kironde aka Ed Kay, one of the organizers, they are putting more emphasis on combatting the stress that comes with politics, which he called boring.Kironde said registration for the Las Vegas chapter is on.
UNAAC is regarded as pro-opposition, compared to UNAA that is even government-funded and whose convention took place at the same time in Boston.
