{UAH} MESSAGE FROM THE PAST
Robert Atuahirwe,
-- I never knew I actually leave such a powerful and long lasting impression on people. Most people never ever forget me, even after just a short interaction, I have now realised. Here below, just a few minutes ago, I am getting an email from a child I last saw as a 2 year old baby when I was I lived with his family in southern Philippines- this was in 1989, and the little boy, now grown up and a lawyer, still remembers me. And he is not the only one. Two years ago, another Filipino girl also traced me through Facebook, she was one of a party of 39 children I moved from a battlefield in Northern Luzon, when the Philippines army carried out a blanket blockade and carpet bombing of the area, agreeing only to let children leave, no adult was to leave the blockade, none of us foreign workers would agree to take the risk of saving these children, but I volunteered to go and get the 39 children and walk with them in a no-man's land under fire to a place of safety, a distance of some 10 miles. I carried this child on my shoulders part of the way because she fell and hurt her knees in the rugged mountain terrain. The little girl never forgot me, and made it a mission in life to one day trace me and thank me in person. This is why I am very content with my life, because on balance, I have done more good in the world than bad, although I could do even more now, and for the remaining years of my life. Getting emails like these just fire me and spur me on. I am not going to give up. My job will never be done, so I must continue.
Bobby
