TODAY IN HISTORY: DECEMBER 28, 1925
It is exactly 91 years today since the birth of Apolo Milton Obote, who would years later become Uganda's president.
A son of a tribal chief of the Lango ethnic group, Obote was born in a remote village of Apac district called Akokoro.
He led Uganda as the second president from 1966 to 1971, having succeeded Sir Edward Muteesa.
Nine years later, he returned at the helm and led the country from 1980 until July 27, 1985.
After his second removal from power, Obote fled to Tanzania and later to Zambia.
On 10 October 2005, at the age of 79, Obote died of kidney failure in a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.
