Police in Tororo have arrested one person in connection with the murder of the son of the Iteso Cultural Union Prime Minister Paul Sande Emolot.

Ronald Ebere Emolot was found lying unconscious at the gate of his parents' home. His face was swollen and blood oozed out of his ears.

Police said he was assaulted at a trade fair at Lions Children's Park. He was pronounced dead moments after arriving at Dembe Clinic.

A one Samanya was identified as the prime suspect as police hunt for his accomplices.

Before his death, Ebere (pictured below) is reported to have said that he had been clobbered at the trade fair by a group of people he knew.

He was buried on Friday at their ancestral home in Koitangiro in Mella sub-county in Tororo South County at an emotional ceremony, with speaker after speaker condemning his killers and demanding that police bring those responsible to book.

His death came just a day after the speaker of Tororo municipal council Gilbert Otim alias Chief said they were ready to identify and eliminate vagabonds whom he said are causing confusion in the politics of Tororo municipality by promoting tribalism.

The  burial ceremony was absconded by both the municipal  and  district political leadership , who are mainly Jopadhola, for security reasons, fearing that the Itesots could use the burial to avenge the death of their son at a time when tension is high between the two tribes who  are battling over the ownership of the municipality.

Speaking during the burial, David Nyesigire Katunda (pictured below), the District Police Commander in the company of   the officer in charge of criminal investigations Musa Ziwa Kazibwe, among other detectives, appealed for calm and promised that justice would be done to its logical conclusion.

Ebere's father said issued a stern warning to all those behind his son's death and described them as jokers who have provoked him into action. He also wondered why the police had not summoned Otim over his "reckless statements".

He revealed that the murder of his son is an indication that he was a principle target, adding that they have been hunting for him since elections time when his home  in town was surrounded by rowdy hooligans.

He said as a family, they are not going to sit back and relax but to ensure all those behind the incident reap from their sins.

"I am just happy with this Christmas message that they have sent me in form of a coffin. I say thank you though in pain and I pray for the perpetrators to continue living and jubilating," he said somberly.

Tororo county south MP Fredrick Angura said it was unfortunate to lose such a youth at the tender age of 30 years and appealed to the residents to desist from actions that will lead into insecurity and bloodshed.

He said although the situation could have been caused by the residents' quest for the district status, they are not yearning for a tribal district because they have co-existed for long and have intermarried.

Tororo county North MP Annet Nyaketcho appealed to the residents to work as a team if they are to achieve their dream of a district status.
