Nabirah Sempala: UBC was sold to Star Times at $19 million
By Watchdog reporter
Kampala woman Member of Parliament, Nabilah Naggayi Sempala has claimed that cash strapped Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation (UBC) has already been sold to Star Times, a pay television service provider.
"All agreements and documents have been finalized to sell off UBC and its entire TV networks, Radio networks and communication infrastructure," MP lamented.
According to Naggayi, UBC was sold to Star Times at a sum of $19 million yet the service provider has another chinese buyer who is ready to pay $900million meaning UBC was sold at the cheapest price ever.
" UBC has been sold, though they have used the word lease, to star Times for $19million. Star Times already has a Chinese buyer for all the UBC radios, TVs and its communication infrastructure for a whooping $900 million," She noted.
Naggayi alleges that the Cooperation sale deal was easily finalized because, Star Times bribed some ministers and technocrats with a few million dollars in exchange for key official signatures.
For the past years, UBC has been facing lot of financial constraints due to mismanagement and less funding by government.
