{UAH} WHEN KALUNDI SERUMAGA SAID THAT MUSEVENI'S POOR UPBRINGING IS THE REASON WHY UGANDANS ARE SUFFERING!

On 18th, September 2009, while  on WBS television talk show dubbed as "Kibazo on Friday", Journalist Kalundi Robert Serumaga proffered opinions on President Museveni and he said that;

"The reason as to why Ugandans are suffering is attributed to Museveni's very poor quality upbringing"

Immediately after the show, he was accosted and dragged into a car as he was leaving the television station. He was over heard saying that "I came out of the TV station and four guys grabbed me and forced me into a car by pistol-wielding security operatives."

Mr Serumaga's partner Maria and fellow panellists Charles Rwomushana and Bernard Tabaire plus show host Peter Kibazo witnessed the abduction.

That state forces were brazen enough to abduct a well-known media personality in the presence of witnesses was an extremely worrying indication of the direction the Ugandan government is taking. It was a chillingly reminiscent of similar scenes from Uganda's violent past during which prominent personalities were abducted by the state and disappeared.

Physical assaults on journalists have gone largely uninvestigated by the Ugandan police. Because police and other security forces are often the perpetrators of such violence, journalists told Human Rights Watch they are very reluctant to report physical abuse by government agents.
