Minister Janat Mukwaya directs arrest of self-appointed Ankole King

Minister for Gender Labor and Social Development Janat Mukwaya has ordered the arrest of self appointed King of Ankole Umar Asiimwe.

Last year, Asiimwe appointed himself King of Ankole and appointed his cabinet which included the former Makerere University chancellor, Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba whom he named Prime Minister.

According to Mukwaya's order, Asiimwe is to be arrested, investigated on and prosecuted.

In her letter dated 14th February 2017 addressed to Police Chief Kale Kayihura, Mukwaya declared the activities of Asiimwe and his cabinet as illegal and that they should be arrested and prosecuted.

"I have received a letter from Dr. George William Katatumba Engazi of Ankole with regard to the above subject over and about an imposter King one Umar Asiimwe and equally an imposter cabinet headed by Prof. Venansius Baryamureba. In his petition Katatumba complains about the activities of the duo whose sole effect is to undermine social cohesion and peaceful co-existence of and among the people of Ankole has thus asked this ministry responsible for cultural institutions and traditional leaders to intervene," the letter read.
