{UAH} SALAAMA ROAD
This road derives its name from the Muslim greeting, Assalam Alaikum. By 1865, Kabaka Muteesa 1 had declared Buganda as an Islamic state and had a mukungu called Sir Apollo Kaggwa (minister) who was in charge of overseeing the spread of Islam and later became the Katikkiro of Buganda. And Assalam Aleikm became the official greeting at Muteesa's palace in Munyonyo. This greeting became hard to pronounce by Baganda and they shortened it to Salaama and the road leading to the palace was named Salaama Road.
