ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY

The Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University, in Burnaby, British Columbia, invites applications for a tenure-track position in environmental economic geography. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, and will begin 1 September 2017.

The ideal candidate will be a geographer with expertise in the interdependent processes of economic and environmental change with a focus on political economies of transition and crisis, at and across varying time periods and spatial scales. They will build an externally-funded research program that complements and contributes to our research strengths in geographical political economies, the city, and/or global environmental change. Research foci might include (but are not limited to) environmental and climate justice, decolonization, sustainable economies, international environmental governance, and geographies of energy and infrastructure. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence, or the clear promise of excellence, in research and teaching, and will pursue collaboration across campus and beyond. They will develop an effective graduate training program, teach graduate and undergraduate courses in economic and environmental geography and other courses in the Human Geography program. We seek candidates who will contribute positively and constructively to the department work environment and will participate in community building and collegial governance.
