{UAH} I'm not even in shock, I'm just angry

A mosque was attacked two days ago by (what appears to be) ISIS extremists in Sinai, Egypt, killing (at least) 235 people and injuring 100+ more. The mosque was strategically attacked on Friday, Islam's holy day, and targeted because the mosque was Sufi it appears.

First, the attack illustrates how extremist groups, particularly ISIS, strategically attack and slay Muslim groups in the region, particularly Sufis and Shiites as part of their "near war." This attack is the most recent of many that came before it. Historically Sufis were the majority in North Africa. Traditionally it's been their stomping ground. Saudis have been flooding the region with Salafi missionary efforts since 1979. I'm not sure about the current demographics. But let's not set aside or ignore the fact that ISIS, and their sympathizers, are committed to going after sufis, shiites, and yes, Muslims that don't meet their narrow definition. But they do have a special vitriol for Sufis and Shiites, that is documented

Second, and in line with the point above, the vast majority of ISIS and extremist groups' victims are - by a far stretch - Muslims. And also Sunni Muslims that don't meet their narrow, deviant interpretation.

Third, not all of the victims in the Sinai mosque were Sufis. Although it was specifically targeted because it was a Sufi mosque, in a region where ISIS tried to regulate and clamp down on earlier this year, Egyptian Muslims frequently worship in mosques of different traditions quite commonly.

Fourth, let's not ignore how the Sisi administration has abetted conditions on the ground to expose vulnerable Muslim communities, particularly poor Sufi communities in the Sinai, to this sort of attack.

Fifth, this tragedy will be exploited by the Sisi Administration to further crackdown on Islam in Egypt.

Prayers with the victims and their families, in what appears to be the greatest terror attack on an Egyptian mosque in recent time.
