Police in Kapchorwa District are hunting for suspected thugs who allegedly waylaid the officer in charge criminal Investigation Department (CID) and beat him.

The Sipi regional police spokesperson, Mr Rogers Taitika, said unknown people intercepted Mr Anthony Kiiza as he was jogging on Sunday morning and beat him up.

"He was attacked at about 6am near Palace Bar in Central division, Kapchorwa town along Kapchorwa- Mbale road. They hit him with stones and sticks until he became unconscious," said Mr Taitika.

He said police are still investigating the motive of the suspects, one of whom was a lady.

"When the lady saw the CID and started making an alarm prompting the CID to inquire what had happened. But with no time, the thugs started stoning him and varnished. We are in touch with the lady to help us arrest the suspect,' said Mr Taitika.

Mr Kiiza who is currently admitted at Kapchorwa Hospital for treatment was found unconscious by area residents.

Police suspect that the thugs wanted to rape the unidentified lady whom the CID wanted to save.

Mr Kiiza further noted that after talking to residents in the area where the police boss was beaten, they got more information which suggests that the attack was planned.
